One of the most talk-about elements of the Greta Constantine show were the shattered-glass accessories, which also inspired the makeup look. M.A.C senior artist Melissa Gibson designed a “shattered lashes” effect that used four different lash styles cut into chunks and placed around the models’ eyes in random patterns. Says M.A.C senior artist Jane McKay, who also worked on the show, “This really shook up how we think of lashes in a traditional sense, and we used them as the focus in an unconventional way. The result was a modern, sexy and dramatic look.” Photographer Angela Y. Martin went backstage at Greta to capture the pre-show action. Click the links below to see the photos. Fashion-week
A fashion week is a fashion industry event, lasting approximately one week, which allows fashion designers, brands or "houses" to display their latest collections in runway shows and buyers to take a look at the latest trends. Most importantly, it lets the industry know what's "in" and what's "out" for the season. The most prominent fashion weeks are held in the fashion capitals - New York, London, Milan, and Paris. We know, we know---we've shoved the "wear suncreen every day" mantra down your throats. (Not that there's anything wrong with that...by the way, are you wearing any today?) But considering the recent holiday weekend and the outdoor revelry that typically goes along with it, it's just a fact that some chicsters out there are nursing sunburns today. First, we have to say: we don't approve! But in the spirit of do-gooding, may we suggest an elixer? Själ Kura Intuitif is a deep hydration cream, used to aid in the repair of damaged, dry, and rehydrated skin with marine vascular complex, mulberry, bearberry, kojic acid, arnica and pearl powder. For the pink-skinned out there today, you'll thank us. And next time---well, you know Characteristics.

January through April designers showcase their autumn and winter collections and September through November the spring/summer collections are shown. Fashion weeks must be held several months in advance of the season to allow the press and buyers a chance to preview fashion designs for the following season. This is also to allow time for retailers to arrange to purchase or incorporate the designers into their retail marketing. Fashion week is an amazing week and happens every year. We're not sure when VPL launched ecommerce, but luckily, it did. Victoria Bartlett's collection has a lot to love, but Chic is especially keen on the swim stuff, which is shockingly well-priced. What's not to love about this orange caged bikini top ($105), paired with high-waisted matching bottom ($95)? We'll take two Schedule The schedule begins with New York, followed by London, with the third major fashion week in Milan, and ending the events in Paris. These four cities are the traditional "big four" fashion weeks that are followed by new emerging fashion weeks globally. The Menswear shows occur in between autumn/winter and spring/summer in Milan. This past long weekend served as a gentle reminder that we must update our summer bag, maintenant. Thankfully, Gucci has launched a new limited-edition collection in three breezy hues: Capri Green, Sporting Red and Lilac. The one catch? These carryalls, clutches and candles are only available at the flagship stores in Capri, Monaco and Cannes. Looks like your hands are tied; you must book tickets for your next weekend getaway Some fashion weeks can be genre-specific, such as a Miami Fashion Week (swimwear), Rio Summer (swimwear), Prêt-a-Porter (ready-to-wear) Fashion Week, Couture (one-of-a-kind designer original) Fashion Week and Bridal Fashion Week, while Portland (Oregon, USA) Fashion Week shows some eco-friendly designers. Globalization has spawned a culture of inter-state Entrepreneurship within the United States, which has motivated innovative fashion designers like Berny Martin to bring fashion weeks to the mid-west and other regions not normally associated with fashion. Mid-west Fashion Week (MFW) is the most successful of these movements and showcases the talents and visions of both veterans and novices in the mid-west's fashion community. Fashion shows tend to bring communities together and generate money for local businesses, non-profits and charities. Fashion weeks have the potential to bring significant income to a city like Indianapolis where MFW was founded. Band of Outsiders may be known for its preppy style, but a collaboration with Colette and all modesty is thrown to the wind. Scott Stenberg's hilarious black and blue-hued “Flasher Tie” was created especially for Paris' style emporium; a close-up view reveals tiny trench coat-clad figures showing their stuff. We’re already racking up Father’s Day ideas, and this cheeky gift certainly makes the list, especially if your père has a charming sense of humor History.
.jpg) In 1943, the first New York Fashion Week was held, with one main purpose: to distract attention from French fashion during WWII, when workers in the fashion industry were unable to travel to Paris. This was an opportune moment - as for centuries designers in America were thought to be reliant on the French for inspiration. The fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert organized an event she called ‘Press Week’ to showcase American designers for fashion journalists, who had previously ignored their works. The Press Week was a success, and, as a result, magazines like Vogue (which were normally filled with French designs) began to feature more and more American innovations. Until 1994, shows were held in different locations, such as hotels, or lofts. Eventually, after a structural accident at a Micheal Kors show, the event moved to Bryant Park, behind the New York Public Library, where it still is today, held inside a number of large white tents. Those who live in New York are unlikely to have a full garden at their disposal (Chic Report's been trying to remedy that situation with hanging tomato plants and herbs on the terrace---er, fire escape), but Kevin Hunt has a different approach. The artist covers furniture with growing grass, for a living sculpture that changes over time. Who needs outdoor space? Just watch out for grass stains!
.jpg) However, long before Lambert, there were fashion shows throughout America. In 1903, an NYC shop, called Ehrich Brothers, put on what is thought to have been the country’s first fashion show, to lure middle-class females into the store. By 1910, many big department stores were holding shows of their own. It is likely that American retailers saw that they were called ‘fashion parades’ in Paris couture salons and decided to use the idea. These parades were an effective way to promote stores, and improved their status. By the 1920s, the fashion show had been used by retailers up and down the country. They were staged, and often held in the shop’s restaurant during lunch or teatime. These shows were usually more theatrical than those of today, heavily based upon a single theme, and accompanied with a narrative commentary. The shows were hugely popular, enticing crowds in their thousands – crowds so large, that stores in New York in the fifties had to obtain a license to have live models. Nowadays, access to NYFW (New York Fashion Week) is by invitation only, and only fashion magazine editors, fashion magazine journalists, models (and ex-models) and celebrities are invited. Other buyers are restricted to the showrooms/stores and the articles in the magazines. Father's Day approaches, and for Chic, it's one of the toughest holidays when it comes to gift-buying. (Every year, dad insists, "No really, don't get me anything!") But we may have found the perfect present in these cufflinks, which we think are equal parts practical, chic, and cheeky. They're subtle enough to be taken seriously with a suit (no novely styles here), can be engraved, come in gunmetal or gold finishes---and hold 2 GB each of the documents dad can't live without all the time.
