One of the most talk-about elements of the Greta Constantine show were the shattered-glass accessories, which also inspired the makeup look. M.A.C senior artist Melissa Gibson designed a “shattered lashes” effect that used four different lash styles cut into chunks and placed around the models’ eyes in random patterns. Says M.A.C senior artist Jane McKay, who also worked on the show, “This really shook up how we think of lashes in a traditional sense, and we used them as the focus in an unconventional way. The result was a modern, sexy and dramatic look.”

Photographer Angela Y. Martin went backstage at Greta to capture the pre-show action. Click the links below to see the photos.

Sustainable-fashion

Sustainable fashion, also called eco fashion, is a part of the growing design philosophy and trend of sustainability, the goal of which is to create a system which can be supported indefinitely in terms of environmentalism and social responsibility. Sustainable fashion is part of the larger trend of sustainable design where a product is created and produced with consideration to the environmental and social impact it may have throughout its total life span, including its "carbon footprint". According to the May 2007 Vogue appears not to be a short-term trend but one could last multiple seasons. While environmentalism used manifest itself in the fashion world through a donation of percentage of sales of a product to a charitable cause, fashion designers are now re-introducing eco-conscious methods at the source through the use of environmentally friendly materials and socially responsible methods of production.
Fashion is all about looking good. But in these eco-conscious times, glam girls are also looking to feel good about the clothing they wear. With growing awareness of the link between climate change and the animal product industries, as well as the serious animal welfare concerns the industry raises, sustainable, animal-free fashion is definitely in, and clothing manufacturers are taking note. Fashion retailers GG2G and Mission Savvy join a long list of game-changing companies proving that you don’t have to sacrifice style or function to dress with a conscience - and they’re helping animals while they’re at it. Both companies are giving back a cut of their profits by partnering with Farm Sanctuary, the nation’s leading farm animal protection organization, which makes our chic-animal-loving-hearts very happy.. and gives us a reason to shop til we drop
According to Earth Pledge, a non-profit organization (NPO) committed to promoting and supporting sustainable development, "At least 8,000 chemicals are used to turn raw materials into textiles and 25% of the world's pesticides are used to grow non-organic cotton. This causes irreversible damage to people and the environment, and still two thirds of a garment's carbon footprint will occur after it is purchased.

Materials
There are many factors when considering the sustainability of a material. The renewability and source of a fiber, the process of how a raw fiber is turned into a textile, the working conditions of the people producing the materials, and the marterials total carbon footprint. From the toxic chemicals used to treat leather during the tanning process to the abject cruelty that animals suffer for their skins, the production of clothing presents both environmental and animal welfare challenges. More and more clothing manufacturers are nixing animal-based products, as well as toxic textile processes to promote a more compassionate lifestyle and reduce their carbon footprint.  And seriously, who notices the difference between a fabulous Stella McCartney purse (or the adorable affordable one below!) and those made from the skins of animals
Natural fibers
Natural Fibers are fibers which are found in nature and are not petroleum-based. Natural fibers can be categorized into two main groups, cellulose or plant fiber and protein or animal fiber.Recognizing the environmental and animal welfare concerns related to the retail clothing industry was central to the founding of online clothing boutique Mission Savvy, which launched this month. Showcasing a variety of eco-conscious designers, the shop is divided into collections, each of which has a specific mission and a different animal welfare or conservation organization in mind. This year, a percentage of the proceeds from Mission Savvy’s Voice collection will go directly to support Farm Sanctuary’s work to end cruelty to farm animals through rescue, education and advocacy. The collection features items made from organic cotton, bamboo and even corn husks
Cellulose.

Cotton is one of the most widely grown and chemical-intensive crops in the world.. Conventionally grown cotton uses approximately 25% of the worlds insecticides and more than 10% of the worlds pesticides. Other cellulose fibers include: Jute, Flax, Hemp, Ramie, Abaca, Bamboo, Soy, Corn, Banana, Pineapple.
Every year, the clothing industry discards literally tons of scrap materials, contributing to overflowing landfills and resulting in a wasteful reputation. Fortunately, handbag and accessories company GG2G is rescuing these unused materials and turning them into this season’s must-have accessories. The company creates useful new items from earth-friendly and repurposed materials, from highway billboards, bicycle inner tubes, and recycled glass bottles, to P.E.T. and other sustainable fabrics. Salvo, GG2G’s new line of handbags made from discarded vinyl from the restaurant seating industry, is set to launch in April. Three percent of sales from the handbag line will be donated to Farm Sanctuary, in addition to 15 percent of sales from GG2G’s new organic cotton t-shirt line
Designers
Designers say that they are trying to incorporate these sustainable practices into modern clothing, rather than producing "hippy clothes." Due to the efforts taken to minimize harm in the growth, manufacturing, and shipping of the products, sustainable fashion is typically more expensive than clothing produced by conventional methods.
Sustainable and animal-friendly labels are providing consumers with ways to both treat themselves and be kind to the Earth and its inhabitants,” said Farm Sanctuary’s Development Director Samantha Ragsdale. “We are excited to watch the evolving market for animal and eco-friendly products and are grateful for the support of emerging companies like GG2G and Mission Savvy. Whether we’re purchasing food or clothing, the choices we make at the cash register make a huge difference in the lives of animals, and it’s encouraging to see so many new companies stepping up to the plate and making conscientious business decisions
Celebrities, models, and designers such as Stella McCartney, Rogan Gregory, Peter Ingwersen, Ali Hewson, Bono, and Summer Rayne Oakes have recently drawn attention to socially-conscious and environmentally friendly fashion. Portland Fashion Week, which has featured sustainable designers and apparel since 2005, has also attracted international press for its efforts to sustainably produce a fashion week that showcases 100% eco-friendly designs. An increasing number of Hollywood celebrities have been associated with sustainable fashion, including Natalie Portman, Cameron Diaz, Alicia Silverstone, Adrian Grenier, Jennifer Aniston and Salma Hayek.
Critics of sustainable fashion have argued that the trend merely seeks to stamp high-priced luxury goods with a seal of liberal social approval. Another major criticism
Controversy
Though all cotton has a large carbon footprint for its cultivation and production, organic cotton is considered a more sustainable choice for fabric, as it is completely free of destructive toxic pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Many designers have begun experimenting with bamboo fibre, which absorbs greenhouse gases during its life cycle and grows quickly and plentifully without pesticides.. Even with this, bamboo fabric can cause environmental harm in production due to the chemicals used to create a soft viscose from hard bamboo. Some believe hemp is one of the best choice for eco fabrics due to its ease of growth, though it remains illegal to grow in some countries. These facts make recycled, reclaimed, surplus, and vintage fabric arguably the most sustainable choice, as the raw material requires no agriculture and no manufacturing to produce. Recently, another alternative to sustainable fashion has emerged that uses synthetic fibers with a process called AirDye technology that eliminates all water from the dyeing and printing process. While critics still point to the chemicals used in making synthetic materials, this method significantly reduces water consumption and pollution, while cotton (organic or not) uses a tremendous amount of water during the growth and dyeing phases.
Farm Sanctuary is the nation’s leading farm animal protection organization. Since incorporating in 1986, Farm Sanctuary has worked to expose and stop cruel practices of the “food animal” industry through research and investigations, legal and institutional reforms, public awareness projects, youth education, and direct rescue and refuge efforts. Farm Sanctuary shelters in Watkins Glen, N.Y., and Orland, Calif., provide lifelong care for hundreds of rescued animals, who have become ambassadors for farm animals everywhere by educating visitors about the realities of factory farming
Critics of sustainable fashion have argued that the trend merely seeks to stamp high-priced luxury goods with a seal of liberal social approval. Another major criticism about "sustainable fashion" is the potential of constantly changing fashion to encourage customers to repeatedly discard last season's clothing to purchase the latest fashions.

Fashion accessory
. Fashion is something which every woman should associate herself with. The fashion style of an urban woman should go in consistency with fashion trend and her personality. The fashion statement of any woman depends upon body frame, skin tone, comfort level and personal attitude.

These are the real fashion pieces and a way to show your personality classic outfit. Fashion accessories are a great way to update any wardrobe.
Another major fashion accessory is shoes, although many do not necessarily consider them to be. Most often, women’s shoes are related as fashion accessories, as compared to men’s shoes. One of the reasons for this is the amazing amount of women’s shoe style available, for example: athletic shoes, casual sandals, elegant sandals, flat dress shoes, stilettos, kitten heels, sling backs, mules, pumps and the list goes on. With handbags and purses, most women own multiple pairs of shoes. Shoes can make or break an outfit, so think about the type of image you want to portray and make sure your shoes fit with that theme.
